Skydive Festivals 2024

The new old style of skydiving

The heyday of skydive events was the time of the boogies of the 80s and 90s. Big planes, colorful T-shirts, flutter suits, belly-flying bigways - if you were allowed to - and stories from all over the world in "Wally Gubbins" style. Sometimes a parachute was lit - no, not on the ground, but up there, or you threw yourself off the El Cap with a flutter suit and, if necessary, an extractor. If you wanted something a little more sophisticated, you paid homage to the makers of "From wings came flight" and curtsied when Norman Kent and Jack Jefferies lit up the drop zone. The old question: Beatles or Rolling Stones, pop or punk, Honda or Harley. If you haven't understood a word so far - it doesn't matter, because today there is a new form of such events.

The new events are called >Hella Herb, >Freefly Festival, >Speck Boogie or >In Boogie we trust. The performances are no less spectacular than before, but no longer as ... well, let's say careless. Today, the participants are looked after by top coaches, they jump with equipment that works and the organizations are at a top level. And although you might sip a latte macchiato with lactose-free milk in the morning, eat vegan sandwiches at lunchtime and perhaps not go all out in the evening, boogies have lost none of their appeal. The new generation of skydivers have revisited the boogie and made it their own. The freefly community has taken the reins and is at least as creative as the previous generations were. The pictures and clips are available super-fast and the shared jumping is spread even faster through social media.

The new old type of event has also replaced competitions, which are struggling with fewer and fewer participants. The obligatory jumping in teams or alone, with planning and organization, has given way to something freer, non-binding and obviously has its appeal. The main thing is jumping with good friends, spending time in the air and on the drop zone - that should continue. Whether someone counts points or centimetres is not so important.

Choose one, two or all events and register. You can find all events on the Swissskydive.org page.
